The Women’s 15’s National Team will start operations in June 2017 after a 3 year break. Selection to the team is based on review from the coaching team as well as observations in the Women’s domestic league, and at an open training camp to be held in Eerikkilä Sports Institute on 29-30.7.2017. From this camp players will be selected to attend a camp on 7-8.10, and from this selection of players a team will be picked to play a friendly fixture on 21.10
The National team’s 2017 season and activities are part of the long term plan of the Finnish Rugby Union, to raise women’s 15’s rugby athletic level in Finland and to succeed in International competition. The current goal of the national team is to play and maintain a high ranking position in the developing countries and ultimately be ranked amongst the top 14 in Europe
The governing body of European rugby; Rugby Europe aims to expand the European Championships for 2020, so that Finland is also part of Europe’s top countries. The four year European Championships are also qualifying phases for the Women’s Rugby World Championships of the next year.
The National Team management is comprised of Head Coach; Henri Tyrväinen, Assistant coaches; Drew Warwick-Smith, Joonas Lahtinen and Antti Partanen, Team Manager; Sini Hakkarainen and Physio; Riikka Nortia.
